St. Odilo Jr. High
Math/History
Great strides are made in math from grades 5 to 8. We will go from simple math facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to ultimately understanding graphing and interpretation of complex problems, along with basic algebra and geometry. Students will obtain a strong core math foundation that will have them prepared to master high school entrance exams and the background to succeed in their next level of education. In 7th grade history, we study American history from the earliest civilizations on the continent through the American Revolution and up to the Civil War. 8th grade will study American History from reconstruction to the present. Additionally, the 8th grade will thoroughly dissect the United States' Constitution and as well as a number of projects on our nations capital, as we take a class trip to Washington, D.C. in early May.
Mr. Scott Ernst
In his six years at St.
Odilo, Scott Ernst has learned that
kids each learn in their own ways. To
accommodate different learning styles Mr. Ernst presents
material with multiple approaches,
both
factual
and
contextual. He also believes strongly in homework as a
pathway to learning. “We spend a great deal of
time in 8th grade learning about our government
and the relevance of all the places students will visit on
the Washington, DC trip at the end of the year.” Mr.
Ernst attended St. Norbert College, from which he holds a
Major in Political Science, a Minor in History
and Secondary Education Certification.
