St. Odilo 6th Grade
6th,
7th, and 8th Grade Language Arts classes aim to produce high
level readers who love literature and are able to respond to
it analytically. In the past years, we have read novels such
as Tom Sawyer, Lord of the Flies, The Book Thief, Illusions
and Tuesdays with Morrie. Through meaningful discussion and
expressive writing, students create reaction, response to
literature and term papers. Grammar and mechanics are
studied formally to provide students with a common structure
and vocabulary with which to discuss their writing with
teachers and peers.
Mr. William Donegan
William Donegan, born and
raised in the Berwyn/Cicero, area is pleased to serve as
both Principal and part-time teacher, for his parish school.
Both his sons attend the school where he began teaching in
1994. “My primary job as principal is to facilitate the
creation of a Christ-centered, positive, safe and loving
environment for the children, parents and teachers. My job
as teacher is to motivate each child to want to learn by
providing a structured, disciplined and comfortable
atmosphere in which children expect to learn and feel
challenged. I enjoy teaching most when all the students
become involved in the process. No amount of money makes me
feel as good as I feel when a struggling student learns how
to do something.” Mr. Donegan holds multiple degrees
including a B.a. in History from North Central College and
an M.a. in Administration from Concordia University. In his
classroom and in his office, he always allows time for
discussion. “Education does not just happen through books.
Discussions may begin from a moral perspective or from
something random. But, discussions always seem to be
meaningful.”
