Odilo 3rd Grade
The third grade is a challenging experience because new and more sophisticated skills are introduced. Now that the children have learned to read, more time is spent on reading to learn. What is metamorphosis? What foods are more nutritious? How can I compose a personal narrtive paragraph? Who are the Navajo and Cherokee Indians? How do I solve story problems? There are many and exciting facts and ideas to be learned about the world in third grade.
Sr.
Bernadette
Schvach, BVM
Sister Bernadette is a self-professed Odilo “old-timer,”
having taught second through fourth grades for 38 years. She
began her education in Iowa before
earning her BA from Mundelein College. She also holds a
Master’s Degree in Education as a Reading Specialist from
Cardinal Stritch University. Sister Bernadette has studied
or taught in Illinois, Iowa, Colorado, Hawaii and even
India. She has chosen to stay at St. Odilo though because
she has never found a place that has more appeal as an
education institution. “The atmosphere, faculty and
parishioners have made it a home-like and friendly arena in
which to work.” Sister Bernadette expects the best of her
students and demands that work be completed and well done.
She balances this high standard with fun and creative
projects that encourage students to work with various
media.
