The Saint Odilo Computer Research Lab

Mrs. Christina Lee

I have been at Saint Odilo School since 1998 teaching Computer and P.E. I received my B.A. in Journalism from Columbia College Chicago in 1996 which required me to take numerous classes in computer technology. I also minored in Sports Recreation for two years at Triton College. I taught computer part time at Mary Queen of Heaven in Cicero for about 5 years and Saint Mary of Czestochowa in Cicero for one year. Previously, during my college years, I coached various sports for West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA) to children and adults with special needs, soccer and volleyball for the Park District of Oak Park and coached the Majors division for Westchester Girls Softball.

I have three children, Jayme (8th), Jack (7th) and Lucy (K), who attend Saint Odilo.

Activities in the Lab

The Saint Odilo Computer Research Lab offers 40 minutes of computer and research time to students Kindergarten through 8th grade. Fifth through Eighth grade meet 3 times a week.

Students work on educational internet sites, internet scavenger hunts, keyboarding, power point presentations, photography and photojournalism projects, and blogging and emailing through our Saint Odilo School Website.

Mid October through November the 8th grade class works on writing projects assigned and graded by student teachers from Saint Xavier University (students of Dr. Angelo Bonadonna's Teaching of Writing class.) These students visit and pair up with the 8th graders twice a week.

The Cougar Crier (formerly The Odilo Millennium News)

The Cougar Crier’s first publication was May 2013. The Class of 2013 realized that the student-run newspaper needed a name change. The newspaper has been solely written by the students since 1999.

Fundraising for New Technology

Help us earn cash through the Funding Factory simply by donating to us your empty laser and inkjet cartridges, old and out-of-service cell phones, ipods, laptops and mp3 players. This fundraiser is on-going.

Physical Education and Health Awareness

Students as early as Pre-School (3 year-olds) to 8th grade have at least 40 minutes a week of P.E. Students fifth through eighth grade have 40 minutes of P.E. every Monday and Wednesday afternoon.

Students in grades 4th-8th bring a notebook to class and log in at least 15 minutes of laps (either indoor or around the parking lot) jumping jacks, pushups and situps.

January is Health Month where we focus on healthy eating habits and visited by a nutritionist who shows the students the importance of eating healthy snacks and the downfall to eating too many sweets.

February is Fitness Month where I have the students workout to yoga, tai chi, and other forms of fitness dvd’s. Students are also welcome to bring in their own choice of fitness dvd’s from home.
